چکیده
Received (Day Month Year) Revised (Day Month Year) We show that the propagation of pulses in an one-dimensional random medium can be characterized using a new complex martingale representation of the transmission coefficient. This representation holds in the frequency domain and in a certain asymptotic limit where diffusion approximations can be used.

Analytical D’Alembert Series Solution for Multi-Layered One-Dimensional Elastic Wave Propagation with the Use of General Dirichlet Series
A general initial-boundary value problem of one-dimensional transient wave propagation in a multi-layered elastic medium due to arbitrary boundary or interface excitations (either prescribed tractions or displacements) is considered. Laplace transformation technique is utilised and the Laplace transform inversion is facilitated via an unconventional method, where the expansion of complex-valued...
متن کاملPulse Propagation in Random Media with Long-Range Correlation
Abstract. This paper analyses wave propagation in a one-dimensional random medium with long-range correlations. The asymptotic regime where the fluctuations of the medium parameters are small and the propagation distance is large is studied. In this regime pulse propagation is characterized by a random time shift described in terms of a fractional Brownian motion and a deterministic spreading d...
متن کاملA study of wave propagation in the FitzHugh Nagumo system
An excitable medium has two key properties: a sufficiently large stimulus provokes an even bigger response (excitability), and immediately following a stimulus the medium cannot be excited (refractoriness). A large class of biological systems from cardiac tissue to slime mold are examples of excitable media. FitzHugh Nagumo (FHN) is the canonical model of excitable media. Its two variables are ...
متن کاملEffective fractional acoustic wave equations in random multiscale media
Wave propagation in a one-dimensional random medium with shortor long-range correlations is analyzed. Multiple scattering is studied in the regime where the fluctuations of the medium parameters are small and the propagation distance is large. In this regime pulse propagation is characterized by a random time shift described in terms of a standard or fractional Brownian motion and a determinist...
متن کاملRay theory for a locally layered random medium
We consider acoustic pulse propagation in inhomogeneous media over relatively long propagation distances. Our main objective is to characterize the spreading of the travelling pulse due to microscale variations in the medium parameters. The pulse is generated by a point source and the medium is modelled by a smooth three-dimensional background that is modulated by stratified random fluctuations...
